The Restaurant was originally an old homestead (around 300 years old). The family would only have had one room which was used as both bedroom and living room, but looking at the rest of the building they probably were quite well off as they had quite a large area for their animals and storage. The small room with the fireplace being their sole living area and the adjoining bar area used to house the cattle in winter, the heat from the cattle would have warmed the air coming in to the living quarters. The upstairs, "The Hayloft" is were we first started. The staircase at the front of building was built to provide the entrance to the restaurant and was not original, Instead there were two openings where the door and window are, the hay would have been forked though these. The large amount of hay above the living accommodation would have provided insulation in winter. The animal feed was passed though a hole in the floor to the cattle in the bar area and another hole was provided where the false fireplace is, that allowed feed to be passed to what is now the kitchen
